Maximillian Cohen (Sean Gullette) is a brilliant mathematician who suffers from severe headaches, and takes a great number of pills as a result. He is fascinated with mathematical patterns in every day life, believing that everything can be understood through numbers. He becomes obsessed with the stock market, looking for patterns within the numbers there. Maximillian has few friends, but has become the object of interest for Lenny Meyer (Ben Shenkman), a Hasidic Jew who is fascinated with finding numerical patterns within the Torah. Once Wall Street traders begin to realize what Maximillian is doing, they begin to follow him. Maximillian's ongoing paranoia and fixation on his work drive him in an unrelenting struggle to find the answers he seeks.
